Here are the details.

March 13 is Riesling's Birthday

Riesling is a grape variety that enjoys worldwide popularity.

In fact, on March 13, 2024, it will celebrate its 589th birthday.

Tracing back the historical origins of "Riesling," the earliest written document is said to date back to March 13, 1435.

This was addressed by Klaus Kleinfisch to the local ruler, Count John 4 of Katzenelnbogen, regarding the purchase of Riesling grapevines to be planted next to a fortress the Count was building in Rüsselsheim, just east of Hochheim in the Rheingau.

On the occasion of Riesling's Birthday, the Wines of Germany Japan Office is hosting this project to share the charms of "Riesling," Germany's iconic grape variety, with a wider audience.
