Japanese cider is attracting increasing attention, much like Japanese wine.
One bottle recommended for Japanese wine fans is Baeren Our Hour Dry Cider, a lightly sparkling cider made luxuriously with 100% Iwate-grown apples.
Here are the details.
About Baeren Our Hour Dry Cider
Baeren Our Hour Dry Cider is made by Baeren Brewery in Morioka, the largest cider producer in Iwate Prefecture.
It is a lightly sparkling cider made entirely from Iwate apples. Around 40 tons of apples delivered directly by local growers are individually handled and pressed by production staff to create this special product.
Flavor
Each bottle uses the equivalent of two apples and is characterized by generous fruit flavor and a dry finish.
No preservatives, coloring, or flavoring are used. Because flavor varies with the quality and varieties of apples harvested each year, comparing vintage differences is part of the appeal.
The cider won a Silver award in the Modern Cider, Dry category at the Japan Cider Cup 2025.
As in the previous year, the first batch made in October this year is also being offered in limited quantities as “Dry Cider Nouveau.”
