My Story in Card Co., Ltd. has released both an e-book and paperback edition of “Koshu Silk Road Story: A Historical Journey to the Dawn of Japanese Wine.”

The booklet looks back on the background to the beginnings of winemaking in Katsunuma, Koshu.

Here are the details.

About the Booklet

“Koshu Silk Road Story: A Historical Journey to the Dawn of Japanese Wine” is a booklet published for Amazon Kindle and in paperback that explores the background to the birth of winemaking in Katsunuma, Koshu.

In the early Meiji period, when foreign currency reserves were limited and even government officials had few opportunities to travel overseas,

why did Katsunuma and Iwai Village have the passion and resources to stake their future on the still-uncertain wine industry and send two people abroad?

Although many excellent books have already been written about the history of Japanese wine, this volume revisits that question, which remained with the author as a wine enthusiast, by tracing a story through a fresh reading of various historical sources.

Contents

“Koshu Silk Road Story: A Historical Journey to the Dawn of Japanese Wine” is organized as follows.

・The history of Katsunuma and grape growing in the Edo period
・The route taken by Koshu grapes (the first Silk Road)
・The rise of the raw silk industry (the second Silk Road)
・The opening of Yokohama and the arrival of Western culture (the third Silk Road)
・The people who staked their hopes on Dai-Nihon Yamanashi Budoshu Kaisha
