What Is “La Fête des Vignerons à Yoichi (Open Farm Festival)”?
This popular wine event is held once a year in Yoichi, Hokkaido, and is affectionately known simply as “La Fête.” Also called the Open Farm Festival, it allows participants to tour wineries and grape farms in Yoichi’s Nobori district while enjoying wine. On this one special day, visitors can enter vineyards that are normally closed to anyone other than industry personnel and taste rare wines made from the grapes grown there. Wine lovers travel from across Japan for the opportunity, and the event is also famous for the intense competition to secure tickets.

(*1) Yamadado is intended to be more than simply a place that makes wine. Through wine, it aims to bring together local residents, grape growers who make wine (= vignerons), chefs, artists and people from many other fields for discussion. The word “do,” meaning a hall or gathering place, was added in the hope that everyone—from wine experts to newcomers—could take part. Yamadado’s concept is to make table wines for everyday enjoyment: wines that do not interfere with food, yet have individuality and make the daily table more colorful.
