Château Kiribayashi, a winery in Iida City, Nagano Prefecture, is operated by Clos de Tenryu LLC.
The company has launched a project to develop the winery into a multifaceted hub for sharing regional culture, going beyond wine production alone.
Here are the details.
About the Project
The project at Château Kiribayashi gives form to representative Mr. Iwata’s belief that “Japanese wineries are expected to serve not simply as winemaking facilities, but also as hubs that communicate local culture and bring people together.” The entire château will be rebuilt as a center for sharing the culture, history and art of southern Shinshu.
The company plans to use the whole building as an art gallery and regional-culture exhibition space, aiming to create a “window onto the region” that anyone can visit, encounter culture through, and feel welcome in.
“Regional Renewal Through Culture”
The project theme is “regional renewal through culture.”
Working with local artists, historians and restaurants, the winery plans to update exhibits regularly. It will also establish areas to exhibit and sell southern Shinshu specialties and highland vegetables, with an eye toward contributing to the local economy.
A crowdfunding campaign has already been conducted and reportedly received support from many people.
We look forward to seeing how the project develops.
