On Friday, May 22, 2026, mano a mano will host a tasting event with Akiko Freeman, winemaker at California’s Freeman Vineyard & Winery.
Guests can experience wines made by a Japanese woman that have been selected for service at the White House.
About Akiko Freeman
Akiko Freeman is the winemaker at Freeman Vineyard & Winery in California.
She founded the small winery together with her husband Ken. Under the cool climate of the Sonoma Coast, the winery has focused carefully on just Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Over time, its wines came to be repeatedly selected for official U.S. presidential dinners, among the most prestigious occasions for entertaining international VIPs.
California wines made by a Japanese woman have appeared on the tables of presidents including Barack Obama and Donald Trump — a story guests can experience firsthand at this event.
Event Details
The tasting is being held to coincide with Akiko Freeman’s visit to Japan and is limited to 15 participants.
Guests will not only taste the wines but can also hear directly from Akiko about her thoughts on wine and her vineyards.
Five wines are scheduled for tasting.
The sequence begins with sparkling wine, moves to Chardonnay, and continues through three Pinot Noirs, creating a flowing introduction to the winery’s world.
• Yuki Estate Blanc de Blancs 2020
• Ryofu Chardonnay 2023
• Pinot Noir West Sonoma Coast 2021
• Gloria Estate “Kagayaki” Pinot Noir 2022
• Akiko’s Cuvée Pinot Noir 2022
The store staff will also prepare two to three finger foods designed to pair with the wines.
It is a rare opportunity. Why not take part?
