Advance sales have begun for the "AKIU Style Natural Reed Diffuser," a dynamic diffuser utilizing grape vines that are discarded by the ton each year at Sendai Akiu Winery.
The sales are taking place on the crowdfunding and support-purchase service "Makuake."
What kind of product is this, created from grape vines?
Upcycling vines into new value
Sendai Akiu Winery was established after the Great East Japan Earthquake as a base to connect local resources and stimulate regional revitalization.
Vineyard work begins with pruning the vines.
However, these vines result in an enormous amount of waste, exceeding about 1.5 tons annually.
In this project, vines that would otherwise be discarded were received and stored.
Furthermore, to commercialize them, meticulous processes such as sorting, managing, and processing the branches were carried out, upcycling them to create new value.
Although the development of this product required a massive amount of labor, with each step taking time and effort, this circular project allows people who resonate with it to engage in environmental support by using this reed diffuser.
It is a one-of-a-kind reed diffuser in the world that weaves together the nature, climate, and heartfelt thoughts of Akiu, Miyagi.
